Effective 25 October 2026.
How BeMyDD handles personal information across the customer app, the Driver app, bemydd.co and the trip-sharing page.
- Organisation
- BE MY DD SERVICES LTD. ("BeMyDD", "we", "us"), Prince George, BC, Canada. Privacy Officer: Azam Dhaliwal, info@bemydd.co.
- Scope
- the BeMyDD customer app, the BeMyDD Driver app, bemydd.co and the trip-sharing page (track.bemydd.co).
- Law
- British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA); Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for commercial electronic messages.
- Age
- the Service is for adults 19+; we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 19.
1. What we collect
| Category | Customers | Drivers |
|---|---|---|
| Identity & contact | mobile phone number (verified by SMS code), name, e-mail (for receipts), date of birth and gender (asked at sign-up; see the note below this table) | mobile phone number, name, e-mail, date of birth (19+) and gender (asked at driver sign-up; see the note below this table), and a photo of you, which customers see during their ride |
| Vehicle | the cars you save: year, make, model, colour, plate and transmission (so Driver A can drive it and the crew can find it), plus the number of passengers and any note you leave for your crew | licence number, class and expiry, a photo of your licence and your driving abstract, driving experience, whether you can drive a manual gearbox, and the make, model, colour and plate of the crew car you drive |
| Ride data | pickup and destination, times, distance, waiting time, fare breakdown, ratings and comments, trip-share links you create, the emergency contact you nominate, and messages you send to your crew | jobs offered, accepted and declined (with reasons), on-job events, earnings and payouts, ratings received (anonymised), and messages with your teammate and your customer |
| Location | your location while you use the app (pickup point, watching your drivers) | precise location, including in the background, while online and during an active job, with heading and speed (see section 4) |
| Payments | card details are collected by Stripe; BeMyDD stores only a token, the card brand and last four digits, and payment status. BeMyDD never stores your card number. | payout account details are collected by Stripe Connect Express; BeMyDD stores the Stripe account reference and payout status |
| Device & diagnostics | push-notification token, app version, device model, and crash reports with personal data removed | the same |
| Communications | SMS codes and ride-status messages; support e-mails | the same, plus in-app notifications |
Date of birth and gender (customers). We ask customers for their date of birth and gender when they sign up. They are used to confirm your age (the Service is for adults 19+) and to help us understand who rides with us. For gender you can choose "Prefer not to say". Drivers never see either. You can see and change both in the app under Account, and deleting your account removes them.
Date of birth and gender (drivers). We ask drivers for their date of birth and gender when they sign up to drive. Your date of birth is used to confirm your age and identity for your application: the BeMyDD staff who review your application see it, to compare it with your licence. Your gender is kept with your account and is not shown to the staff who review your application; you can choose "Prefer not to say". If you already gave them in the customer app, the same account carries them into your application. Customers never see either. You can see and correct both in the driver app: on the application form each time you submit it, and under Account once you are approved. Deleting your account removes them.
2. Why we use it
We use personal information to provide and dispatch two-driver rides; for live tracking and the pickup of Driver A after drop-off; for pricing, payment, receipts and tax records; for safety (emergency contact, trip sharing, no-show handling); for driver onboarding, vetting and payouts; for ratings and service quality; to prevent fraud and resolve disputes; to meet our legal and accounting obligations; and, only with your express consent, for marketing.
3. Consent
We collect personal information with your consent, given when you create an account, book a ride, apply to drive or grant a device permission. You may withdraw consent at any time (for example by turning off location or deleting your account); some withdrawals mean parts of the Service can no longer be provided.
4. Location data
4.1 Customer app: collects your precise location only while you are using the app, to set your pickup point and show your drivers approaching. It does not collect location in the background.
4.2 Driver app: collects precise location data while you are online and during an active job, including when the app is closed or not in use. This is needed because:
- Dispatch matches you and your teammate with jobs based on where you are while online;
- Live tracking lets the customer see both drivers approaching and lets Driver B find Driver A after the drop-off;
- The pickup of Driver A requires Driver B to keep following with the phone in a pocket or mount and the screen locked, which is why the app asks for "Allow all the time".
Collection stops when you go offline. We show this explanation in the app before asking for the operating-system permission, and you can turn the permission off at any time in your phone's settings; you then cannot go online.
4.3 What we keep: live positions are shared in real time with the people on that ride and stored as sparse snapshots (about every 20 seconds) for the ride record; the final route is stored with the ride. Position snapshots are kept for 90 days for disputes and insurance, then deleted automatically.
4.4 Sharing: if a customer shares their trip, the recipient sees location, ETA and vehicles only, never the fare or the pickup address. A customer who saves an emergency contact and switches on Share every ride automatically instructs us to send that contact one text message per ride, from BeMyDD's number, when a driver team is assigned; it contains the trip link and the customer's first name, nothing else (see section 9). Location data is never sold and is not used for advertising.
5. Who sees what
Drivers see the customer's first name, the car details and note for that ride, the number of passengers, the pickup and destination, and the live meter. Customers see each driver's first name, photo, rating and role (A or B), and the make, colour and plate of the crew car. Ratings and comments are shown to drivers only in anonymised, combined form after a minimum number of rated rides. Drivers never see a customer's date of birth or gender. Customers never see a driver's date of birth or gender; the BeMyDD staff who review a driver's application see that driver's date of birth.
While a job is live, the two drivers on it can see each other's mobile phone number (the one each signs in with) so that they can call each other from their own phones; that stops when the job is completed or cancelled. A customer and the drivers on their ride can also call each other: when one of them taps Call before the customer has been dropped off, the app shows that person the other's mobile phone number and the call is placed from their own phone, so each sees the other's number. No number is shown before a team has accepted the ride, after the customer has been dropped off, or after the ride is cancelled.
6. Driver vetting
Applicants provide their licence details, a photo of their licence, their driving abstract, a photo of themselves, their driving experience and whether they can drive a manual gearbox, and confirm two consents in the app: to a background check and to the contractor agreement. Approval is a decision made by a person at BeMyDD, who also records whether the driver may drive a customer's own car. Licence and driving-abstract records, and any criminal-record check result we obtain with your consent, are kept for as long as you drive with BeMyDD and for 2 years after, then deleted. An application that is not approved is deleted 1 year after the decision.
7. Service providers and storage outside Canada
| Provider | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | database, sign-in (SMS one-time codes sent through Twilio), real-time updates, file storage and server functions | Canada (Amazon Web Services, Montréal region); Supabase Inc. is based outside Canada and its support staff may access the service |
| Stripe | card payments and holds; Stripe Connect Express for driver payouts | United States and other countries |
| Twilio | SMS one-time codes and ride text messages | United States |
| Google Maps Platform | address lookup, maps and routing | United States and other countries |
| Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) | push notifications, including trip-message notices (the sender's first name and initial, and the wording of a quick message; typed text is never sent through it) | United States and other countries |
| Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) | crash and error reporting, with personal data removed on the device before sending | United States |
| Firebase Hosting (Google) | hosting for bemydd.co and the trip-sharing page | global network |
Our main database is hosted in Canada. Payments, maps, push notifications, SMS and crash reporting are handled by the providers above, which may store or process your information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement and national-security authorities under the laws of that country. We choose providers that protect information to a standard comparable to ours and share only what each one needs to do its job.
8. How long we keep it
| Record | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account profile | the life of the account; anonymised within 30 days of deletion |
| Ride, fare, receipt and payout records | 7 years (tax and accounting law) |
| Driver position snapshots and routes | 90 days (deleted automatically) |
| Customer's date of birth and gender | as long as the account exists; removed when the account is deleted |
| Driver's date of birth and gender | as long as the account exists; removed when the account is deleted |
| Driver licence, driving abstract and background-check records | while you drive with BeMyDD and 2 years after; 1 year after the decision for an application that is not approved |
| Emergency contact's name and phone number | as long as the customer keeps it saved in the app; removed when they delete it or their account |
| Trip-share links | expire 8 hours after the scheduled or actual pickup and stop working 30 minutes after the ride ends |
| Trip messages between a customer and their crew | 90 days |
| Typed messages between the two drivers of a job (never shown to the customer; BeMyDD can review them) | 90 days |
| Call log (who called whom, when and for how long; no recordings) | 90 days |
| Ratings and comments | the life of the account, anonymised for drivers |
| Crash reports | 90 days |
| Marketing consent records | as long as we rely on the consent, plus 3 years |
Some records must be kept longer when the law requires it or while a dispute, claim or investigation is open.
9. Text messages and marketing
Ride-status texts, one-time codes, receipts and account notices are part of the Service and are not marketing. We send marketing e-mail or texts only with your express consent, given by an unticked opt-in at sign-up or in settings. Every marketing message identifies BeMyDD and includes a way to unsubscribe, which takes effect within 10 business days.
Texts to an emergency contact. When a customer turns on Share every ride automatically, the trip-link text we send to their emergency contact is sent at the customer's instruction, for the contact's safety information, contains no offer or price, and identifies BeMyDD. The contact can reply STOP at any time; we honour it immediately and permanently. We keep the contact's number only while the customer keeps it saved.
10. Your rights
You may ask to see and correct your personal information, withdraw consent, and delete your account from the Account screen in the app or by e-mailing info@bemydd.co from the address on your account (see how to delete your account). We respond within 30 business days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
11. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Database access is restricted so that each person sees only their own information and the rides they are part of. Payment card details never reach our servers. Drivers' live positions are visible only to the people on that ride and to BeMyDD operations staff during the ride.
12. Children
The Service is for adults 19+. We do not knowingly collect information from minors; contact us and we will delete any such information.
13. Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page with a new effective date, and tell you in the app before an important change takes effect.
